Lord + Taylor Reviews

I am posting this review to illustrate that there must be a lot of variation in recent customer experiences. I do not dispute the negative reports posted here but my experience was different. Within the past three weeks I have placed multiple orders for Lord & Taylor own brand private label women's apparel items. Each order was fulfilled accurately with fresh merchandise, typically in a plastic bag and folded around tissue paper rather than items that had been on display in a store. I was surprised that free 2-day Shoprunner shipping was available given L&T's financial circumstances, and that was my chosen delivery method, with all items arriving very quickly. My credit card was charged as each item was shipped and the charges were accurate. I agree that there was conflicting information provided about the return policy. Both the website checkout page and the packing slips indicated that returns were accepted, but there was a banner on the website stating that all sales were final and I was aware that I was buying from a liquidation sale, so I assumed that somebody decided to not spend the money to update the website checkout or the shipping forms. Perhaps the accuracy of my order was due to almost all my items being shipped from a warehouse and not a store. Perhaps the good condition of the merchandise was due to my having ordered Lord & Taylor brand goods which by definition could not be extra product brought in by the liquidators for distribution through this sales process. Perhaps the fast delivery with accurate tracking was a result of using Shoprunner. Perhaps I was lucky. Whatever the reasons, everything worked smoothly for me.

This was the loveliest department store when I was growing up. We shopped at their Fifth Avenue flagship store and at another suburban site.

In its halcyon days it catered to the carriage trade... it was totally top drawer.

It was always a treat to have lunch or a little treat at their tea room known as The Bird Cage.

Over the years, due to poor corporate management, it deteriorated; became known as "Lord and Taylor" and essentially sunk into oblivion.

I ordered a few lovely cashmere sweaters in recent years... then I just learned that it was bought out for a meager 400 M. By some kind of rental business... horrible news.

Good-bye, Lord and Taylor's... you were wonderful and a classic in more genteel and gracious times.

Five stars for your glorious past... you were the gold standard of department stores.
